Help for Single Moms

from: Karlie Bestler

Many people think of financial assistance when they consider single mother help. Many federal, state and local programs do offer some form of assistance for single moms, but for many single moms that assistance is not enough. Some single moms cannot find work that pays well enough to allow them to pay their regular bills and provide quality childcare for their children.

Many single moms would like to find educational programs that would allow them to gain skills so they could work at something other than entry level jobs. Obtaining these skills would mean further education. While many woman want more education, they find it difficult to find educational programs that would allow them to work, attend school and pay for the quality child care necessary to allow the women to be away from the children for long hours.

Most single mom help will solve one issue but conflicts with other single mom help that would help solve the other issues. Most single women are then forced to make a choice between the available options.

Sometimes, a single mom discovers that her support system is her biggest asset. Some organizations can't provide financial single mom help, but they can provide other support for single moms. Many agencies sponsor single mom support groups. The members of these groups cheer each other as they achieve success. The members also support each other in times of stress.

In some cases, the members can swap services, such as childcare, thus allowing many single moms some time to themselves or to attend school. Support group members also can share tips that help each other solve the small, annoying problems that everyone encounters during the course of a week.

If a single mom can't find a local single mom help support group, she might want to search local churches or senior citizen organizations. Some of these organizations might have small programs that could help the single mom for a short time. Perhaps the organizations would be able to help the single mom network to obtain information or other services that would help the single mom solve her problem.

Many agencies cannot provide all the help that a single mom needs, but it is possible that a single mom, if she persists, can find several small organizations that can help her get out of poverty and establish a stable life for herself and her children. Single moms will do better if they have the support they need to continue their search for a better life.
